This one isn't philosophy. It's safety, and it could save a life.
Withdrawal from alcohol and from benzodiazepines — drugs like Xanax, Klonopin, and Valium — can be medically dangerous. Heavy, long-term use can lead to seizures and, in severe cases, delirium tremens, which can be fatal without treatment. If you have been drinking heavily every day, or taking benzodiazepines regularly, do not stop abruptly on your own. Talk to a doctor, an urgent care clinic, or a detox program first. Medically managed withdrawal is safer and far more comfortable.
Opioid withdrawal is miserable but rarely life-threatening in itself. The danger comes after. When you stop, your tolerance drops quickly, and a dose you once handled can now kill you. This is why overdose risk spikes after detox, after jail, after a stretch of treatment. If you or someone you love uses opioids, carry naloxone (Narcan) — it is available over the counter in the U.S. — and never use alone. Recovery only works if you're alive for it.

◎ Prompt
If you've been using daily, book a conversation with a doctor before you change anything, and be completely honest about amounts. If anyone in your life uses opioids, buy a naloxone kit this week and keep it where people can find it.
